As Smeed already stated:
'Nobody here works for Microsoft, so you won't receive a definite answer to that question.'
However, we can tell you what they've done in the past when operating systems such as Windows XP or Vista reached their own End-of-Lifecycle (EoL) support dates and what we've seen so far regarding support for Windows 7 itself.

In the case of Windows XP, there were so many people still using this operating system, that when its EoL date came in April 2014, Microsoft officially decided to continue providing definition updates for Microsoft Security Essentials for a year beyond the EoL date. In fact in one extreme case as mentioned in this article; Microsoft issues ‘highly unusual’ Windows XP patch to prevent massive ransomware attack, they provided this specific patch for unsupported operating systems including WIndows XP, 8.0 and Server 2003.

However, when Windows Vista ended support only a few years after XP in April 2017, Microsoft added a warning message for this fact by turning the MSE icon amber and indicating 'potentially unprotected', and as I recall they totally shut down the operation of MSE shortly after that date by turning the icon red and declaring it was no longer supported for use with either Windows Vista or XP.
Both Windows Vista and XP received continued AV program support from a few 3rd-party Antivirus vendors for a year or more, but this again dropped off much faster with the less popular Vista and typically ended completely for most when they released their next major program upgrade.
In the case of Windows 7, Microsoft had already offered a free upgrade to Windows 10 back in 2015-16, which is what they clearly wanted everyone to do. They've also already deprecated (e.g. reduced) support within these very forums for both Windows 7 and 8.1, the only remaining Windows operating systems in extended support.

The other fact is that unlike Windows XP and Vista, when Windows 7 ends support there won't be any other version of Windows still using Microsoft Security Essentials, so keeping this around only to support the remaining Windows 7 users who've chosen not to upgrade or replace their systems really has no benefit to anyone.
Everything I've seen recently tells me that not only will Microsoft likely abandon Windows 7 very quickly after its End-of-Lifecycle date in January 2020, but most 3rd-party vendors are more likely to do the same this time as well.
So rather than worry about what free security product is best, I'd just install the free MSE or whatever you prefer and concentrate on what you're going to do to replace that Windows 7 system, preferably before January 2020 or at least as soon as possible thereafter.
Anything else is a waste of time, since you won't know what's truly going to happen until it does, but you can be quite certain that Microsoft won't be extending any more support for Windows 7 than it absolutely must and for that reason, most 3rd-party vendors won't be wasting time and money on future support for it either.
The world has already moved on to Windows 10, you're already behind the curve, so get serious about the future one way or another if you care about your security at all.
